Ingredients
- 1 yeast cake (dry)
- 4 cups liquid
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 4 tablespoons shortening
- 3 pounds flour
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in one pint of liquid which has been scalded and cooled to lukewarm (85 degrees F.). Add one pound of flour, beat well, and let rise until light (over night). Add one pint of liquid scalded and cooled to lukewarm, salt, sugar, shortening, and flour. Knead until smooth and elastic. Let rise until double in bulk.
- Knead, shape into loaves, place in greased pans. Let rise again until double in bulk and bake in a moderately hot oven for 1 hour at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
