Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 3 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup chopped figs
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Make filling first; mix sugar, flour, and figs, add boiling water. Cook until thick, when cold add lemon juice and nuts. Make cooky dough by combining shortening, sugar, egg beaten, and milk. Add dry ingredients sifted together and flavoring. Add more flour if necessary to make a soft dough for rolling. Roll very thin, cut in desired shapes, wet edges with cold water, put a teaspoonful of filling on half the pieces and cover with the others. Bake in a moderate oven for 10-12 minutes at 325 degrees.
