Southern Waffles

Ingredients

• 1 3/4 cups flour
• 4 tablespoons corn meal
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 4 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 egg
• 1 1/2 cups milk
• 3 tablespoons melted shortening

Instructions

1. 1Mix and sift dry ingredients. Beat egg yolk until light, add milk, and mix with dry ingredients. Add shortening and beat well. Fold in stiffly beaten egg white.
