Steamed Brown Bread No. 2
Ingredients
- 1 cup corn meal
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
- 3/4 cup molasses
- 1 cup white or rye flour
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients all together except the rolled oats, and sift.
- Add the boiling water to oats, also the molasses and shortening.
- Combine mixtures and beat thoroughly.
- Pour into a well-greased mold, having it only one-half full.
- Cook in steamer 3 hours.
